The Subject of Marriage Equality

So I work at an art and frame store. In that capacity I meet a lot of random people. Some I only see once and they touch my life and others come back again and again to touch it more. They continue to reach into my life and make me ponder things in my life. With that there is a couple that come in quite often a gay couple. I assume they have been together for many years. One is in a wheel chair as a result of a stroke. To see them interact with each other and the love they have for each other makes me ponder how anyone could deny their love is real.
The powers that be among the so called "Christian" Right would have people believe that this couple's love isn't as "real" as heterosexual love. It is infuriating to me that they could possibly say that their love is some kind of perversion of love. They say that about the whole of the gay community. They get the love and we get the fucking and that is all we are about. We get to be the animals catering to baser instincts. Now not that base animal lust isn't or can't be fun but, we are no more that they are drunken frat parties and the "Oh, my God my period is late". We are all human and all of are capable of base fucking because well duh we are still animals and do feel and have the urge to do it. It's just that humans are and tend to be judgmental, hypocritical and not a little high an mighty at times.
To see the love between these two and others I have seen cannot be denied. You might say well you yourself are gay and thats why you say this. Well you might be right but, I don't fully agree. Because as with these two men and seeing them with each other. If it was just about fucking then why wouldn't the one not in the wheel chair just leave and go find someone else. What can it be but a true representation of love. It is easy to just up and leave when it's just sex and nothing else. When there is a deeper connection like love it makes harder.
I ask those that see our love as less than theirs just because we are of the same sex are misguided and wrong on so many levels. To protect "traditional marriage" one might ask them to make divorce illegal. Or perchance ask them why they say nothing about reality shows where marriage is conducted on television and voted on by the masses between one Bachelor/Bachelorette and many suitors contending for the top prize with the winner getting one million dollars. They also get the title of minor celebrity, darling of the tabs and fifteen minutes of fame. Meanwhile those that see ours as degradation of their definition of that word still cry out we are wrong.
It was recently stated by someone I knew once that I have just as much right to marry a woman as any other man does. I never really said anything to this. Well here it is. He is right technically but and it's a BIG but, what the fuck does a gay man want to marry a woman for? It was one of many silly things he said over a few days. It does not and would not mean a single thing other than marriage on paper.
Here is my solution to this "problem". They worry that marriage as defined by them will be dragged through the mud. I say this let marriages be conducted by everyone's respective religious representative and let the government have civil unions for all. It is implied in the constitution that all people are created equal. Well then we should all have the right to marry.
